LG Optimus 3D Android Smartphone Officially Announced

LG officially announced the Optimus 3D P920 Android smartphone powered by “tri-dual” configuration – dual-core, dual-channel and dual-memory. The 3D phone is boosted by TI OMAP4 dual core 1GHz processor, and 4Gb LP DDR2 memory. It comes with 8GB internal memory.

The Optimus 3D features dual 5 Megapixel lens camera that can record 1080p Full HD 2D video or 720p HD 3D video. The phone also supports 720p and 1080p video playback of H.264, H.263, DivX, MKV, WMV-9, ASF, AVI, 3GP, MP4 formats. The Optimus 3D has a 4.3-inch large 3D touchscreen and offers HDMI 1.3 output and DLNA support. LG has partnered with YouTube allowing users to upload and stream 3D content and share each other’s creations on YouTube’s dedicated 3D channel (youtube.com/3D).

Coming in Q2, the LG Optimus 3D will be released with Android 2.2 Froyo and will be upgradeable to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).

Samsung Galaxy S II and 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab II confirmed for MWC, 4-inch 3D display, LTE-based cloud gaming coming later

Alright, we've just laid eyes on some internal Samsung documents and can bring you the official names and specs of the successors to the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab. Firstly, the Galaxy S II will tout a 4.3-inch, 800 x 480 Super AMOLED Plus display, a 1GHz dual-core Orion / Exynos processor, NFC, Bluetooth 3.0, and 24Mbps HSPA+ connectivity. All those stats were leaked earlier this morning, along with the image above, and we've once again seen the 8.49mm thickness for this device, although we now believe it is the measurement at its thinnest point -- it's likely that the S II will fatten up to 9.9mm, presumably to accommodate the camera module, one of the last remaining parts of smartphone construction that require extra girth (NFC being another).

As to the Galaxy Tab II, it is indeed the 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet we've been hearing so much about, with the added bonus of it being a Google Experience Device. That should mean no Samsung-derived skin customizations atop the stock Android 3.0 UI -- exactly what we expect to see from the Motorola Xoom. Also matching the Xoom are the resolution, at 1280 x 800, and CPU speed, at 1GHz, though we couldn't determine whether the Tab II will be a dual- or single-core tablet. Our money's on seeing the Exynos 4210 appear in both new Galaxy devices, but we'll have to wait until Samsung's presser tomorrow to find out for sure. One more note of import on specs: we saw a 16GB / 32GB / 64GB storage listing, but couldn't be sure what product it referred to -- wouldn't it be lovely if the Galaxy S II was the first smartphone to step past the 60GB barrier?

Finally, looking toward the future, Samsung is apparently working on a 4-inch WVGA display with 3D capabilities -- presumably autostereoscopic like LG's Optimus 3D -- and an intriguing "Motion UI" control scheme. The latter will allow you to pan inside Google Maps and StreetView just by the movement of your phone, as well as zoom in and out of pages by tilting the handset up and down (a gyroscope will be required for both functions). Samsung also has big plans for LTE, with a focus on pumping out whatever you receive over the 4G connection to a nearby HDTV using dual display technology. The two applications we caught sight of were personal broadcasting, where your Sammy handset would act as an extremely sophisticated internet TV receiver, and cloud-based gaming. Here's hoping we learn more about these future ventures tomorrow.

A company called GIT MEDIA GROUP has launched two new Android tablets, the 7-inch ICAN! 7 and the 10-inch ICAN! 10. Both of them are powered by 1GHz CPU and runs Android 2.1 OS. They have 16GB internal memory and support WiFi and 3G connectivity. You can also find a 1.3 Megapixel webcam, USB port HDMI output, built-in speaker and microphone, and microSD card slots. The ICAN! 10 adds Ethernet LAN port as well.

ICAN! 7 and ICAN! 10 are priced at $399.99 and $499.99.

Acer announced 4.8-inch 1024×480 Android Smartphone

Acer announced at its global event a 4.8-inch huge touchscreen smartphone that actually looks more like a tablet. The screen is not only larger, it offers 1024×480 high resolution with a 21:9 aspect ratio. As Acer’s next flagship, the device sports a 8 Megapixel camera with LED flash, a 2 Megapixel front-facing camera for video calling, Bluetooth 3.0 and WiFi 802.11n connectivity.

This 4.8-inch Acer smartphone is powered by 1GHz SnapDragon processor and runs Android OS with Flash Player 10.1. It includes 6-axis motion sensing (Gyroscope + accelerometer). The phone has a full metal body, enriched by subtle wavy patterns, smoothly curved back and minimal width (64mm), conveying a sense of timeless elegance.

Velocity Micro's 7-inch Cruz Tablet now shipping for $300

Not kosher with ponying up $500+ for an Android tablet? You've got options, kid. Velocity Micro's Cruz Tablet has finally hit the shipping stage, and sure enough, it's doing so in the month that was promised back in September. $299.99 lands you a 7-inch Android 2.0 tablet with an 800 x 480 capacitive touch panel, 512MB of RAM, 12GB of total storage, 802.11n WiFi, inbuilt speakers, a headphone jack, mini-USB port and a rechargeable Li-ion good for around ten hours of use -- or so they say. Of course, you'll be stuck accessing the Cruz Market rather than the bona fide Android Market, and you can forget about embedded 3G. But hey, it's three Benjamins sans any sort of life-altering contract. And that's got to count for something, right?

onfirmed: Lenovo LePad headed to US in 2011

Lenovo led us to believe that that our LePad chances weren't terribly good, but CEO Yang Yuanqing recently told the Wall Street Journal that the Android tablet is indeed slated for a 2011 US launch. Though Lenovo's COO Rory Read was pretty clear that the LePad wouldn't ship stateside until a tablet-ready version of Android was ready to go, it seems the company's now confident that Google will deliver the goods. However, our gain is apparently China's loss, as the publication reports that the slate's been pushed into 2011 (as opposed to this December) in its country of origin as well. What's a multinational computer corporation to do?

Samsung confirms Continuum dual-display Android handset for Verizon

After a rather large complement of leaks, Samsung has finally confirmed its Continuum phone for Verizon, via Twitter of all places. The phone will ship on November 11th. Samsung is billing it as the "first phone with a dedicated ticker display," referring to the secondary 1.8-inch color screen below the capacitive touch buttons. There's a Samsung Mobile event happening at 6PM EST that will undoubtedly shed more light on this Android handset, but for now we expect the specs to be in line with other Galaxy S-series handsets. You know, except for the ticker part. Samsung is also proud to announce that it's shipped 3 million Galaxy S phones in the US, a sizable chunk of the 7 million or so sold globally so far.
